Your Ultimate Guide to Exploring Da Nang in 2023

Da Nang is a beach city away from the intense traffic of Saigon and Hanoi where you can surf or enjoy the city life of Vietnam at a slower and more reasonable pace.

Your Ultimate Guide to Exploring Da Nang in 2023

Da Nang is the third largest city in Vietnam and has a lot of cool tourist spots nearby. You may have seen pictures of Bà Nà hills, a French-inspired village on the mountain tops accessible by cable car, as well as many pagodas overlooking the city and beach, and Marble Mountain. A short drive away is the picturesque city of Hoi An, known for its well-preserved ancient town with beautiful lanterns at night. Many people stay here merely as a launching point to the nearby tourist attractions.

But Da Nang is a pretty cool city in its own right. A vibrant university town with plenty of nightspots to unwind over a cup of tea, beer, or coffee while watching the traffic or live music. There are also hundreds of impeccable cafes in the city, some of which we have featured on this site. People here stay out late talking over a meal and drinking tea on the street until late at night. You can have a wild time here and these are some cool spots to try on your trip.

Best Things To Do In Da Nang From an Expert

1. Bánh Xèo Cô Mười

I've discovered the best place to eat it in Da Nang! The bánh xèo here is simply irresistible, with a delicate yet crispy golden brown crust that encases a mouthwatering blend of pork, shrimp, mung bean, onions, and bean sprouts. This hands-on delight is served hot off the pan and meant to be wrapped in veggies and dipped in a delicious sauce. Known as Vietnamese pancakes or Vietnamese crepes, bánh xèo is perfect for eating with a group of friends. Get ready to indulge in the heavenly flavours of Da Nang's best bánh xèo!

2. Enjoy Luxurious My Khe Beach

My Khe Beach Da Nang boasts over 900 meters of pristine white sand, crystal clear blue waters, gentle waves, and warm temperatures all year round. With swaying coconut trees dotting the coastline, this beach radiates irresistible beauty that will leave you in awe. If you're planning a trip to Da Nang, My Khe Beach is an absolute must-visit destination.

"Relax under the shade of an umbrella on your rented sun lounger and enjoy the wonderful views of the bay and the mountains. Go for a stroll along the shoreline, or for something a little more strenuous, a hike through the mountainous forest that borders the beach. If you want to do more than swimming in the sea, try water skiing and scuba diving." - Expedia

3. Finally You Can Afford to Get a Tailored Suit in Hoi An

It's architectural heritage is exceptionally well-preserved, earning it the distinction of being a World Heritage Site. Hoi An is a compact town that is ideal for walking and exploring. It is also world renowned as one of the most enjoyable places to purchase custom-made suits from its vast number of tailors. I personally had several items made for me over the space of a weekend. If you want an affordable but high quality tailored suit, but never knew when or how now is your chance. The savings you will make on this could pay for your trip by itself compared to doing this in the US, UK or Australia.

Simply get measured up, select your fabric, and come back for a fitting to ensure the fit before they finish your garments. A short time afterwards your suit is made and fits perfectly. In the meantime, you can explore one of the world's most beautiful cities with hospitable people and tasty food. Whether you are captivated by history, culture, food, nightlife, nature, or shopping, Hoi An offers something to suit your interests. It is, without a doubt, my favourite place in Vietnam. I stayed at Antara Hoi An Resort. It’s a short walk to the old town.

4. Eat Signature Dish Of The South - Bún thịt nướng

Bún thịt nướng, a beloved Vietnamese dish that originated in Southern Vietnam, consists of cold rice vermicelli topped with grilled pork, fresh herbs such as basil and mint, fresh salad, giá, and chả giò. To enhance its flavor, the dish is seasoned with nước mam fish sauce. Try it at Ty - Bún Thịt Nướng.

Normally I need a local guide to find the top quality Vietnamese food places but this time I happened across a great one. I was waiting for a slow guy at the ATM and saw healthy-looking university students come and queue up on their bikes to grab food at this place, so I stopped in to see what it was like. It was very tasty, super cheap and definitely the place to try something new.

5. A Night of Music Under the Stars

If you are with a partner or some friends this is a great way to finish your nightyou must try Cafe & Trà Sữa BandB. Watch some talented singers perform classic Vietnamese hits as well as some foreign songs, all for the price USD 1.70 to buy a trà đào (peach tea). There are several of these kinds of outdoor music venues I have noticed all over the city. This is my personal favourite as it's in the centre of town and the backdrop has the lights of the city. Couples of all ages and young people come to watch late into the evening. Best arrive by about 8-9pm. If you are brave they also let aspiring singers try out.

5.Central Vietnam’s Must-Eat Dish: Mì Quảng

What I knew is that going to Da Nang without eating Mì Quảng is a big mistake. A friend of mine took me to this beautful looking restaurant where they have the traditional Mì Quảng. The famous noodle dish is a bit more spicy and the noodles are thicker than something like pho and personally it’s one of my favourites. This was the best place to try it.

The mì quảng at this place is really good. The broth is flavorful and I got the one with everything in it - shrimp, frog, pork belly, beef, chicken, all mixed together. Plus, there were crispy rice crackers and lettuce with banana flower on top. The bowl was big, but I finished it all because it was just that tasty, even though I wasn't super hungry. And the best part? It only cost me USD 3, and the place was nice and clean to eat in.
