Where To Eat Like A Local In Danang (Part 1)

In this article, we're spilling the beans on five local favorites that locals swear by but rarely find their way to Instagram or travel brochures. So, if you're up for a culinary adventure off the usual path, join DreamingAsia in discovering these hidden gems that'll surprise you.

Thanh Nhan

Thanh Nhan is a great spot to delve into the world of Vietnamese "quán nhậu" dishes. In Vietnam, these places are where locals gather after work for a chat and a drink. What you need to know, especially if you're a foreigner, is that the food here is genuinely delightful. The seasoning perfectly captures the flavors of the central region, offering generous portions at reasonable prices.

It's worth noting that the dishes tend to lean towards spiciness, in line with Vietnamese taste. Just let the staff know if you prefer milder options when ordering. The atmosphere can get lively, mainly with Vietnamese groups of friends and families, so you can hear some “1 2 3 yo” while eating. Despite the noise, the outstanding dishes like grilled pork, stir-fried vermicelli with pig intestines and turmeric, and frog salad won't disappoint – they're a must-try.

Udon Ten

Udon Ten stands out as a delightful addition to Da Nang's culinary scene, reflecting the increasing influence of Japanese culture in the city. The restaurant's ambiance is warm and inviting, creating a cozy space for diners. With an extensive menu featuring various udon noodles, Japanese curry rice, and even sushi, Udon Ten caters to those seeking an authentic Japanese dining experience. One of the highlights of my visit was the Japanese curry rice dish. Served in a generous portion, the curry was of exceptional quality, blending rich flavors and aromatic spices.

Cơm Tấm Ốp Lết 1940

Cơm Tấm Ốp Lết 1940 has gained quite a reputation for its grilled pork ribs. These ribs are a true delight with their tender texture and appealing golden color that not only looks tempting but also fills the air with a mouthwatering aroma. The broken rice (cơm tấm) tends to soak in the flavors better, allowing you to savor the special sauce more intensely. Accompanied by side dishes such as a sunny-side-up egg, a variety of pickled vegetables, and other delightful additions, your taste buds will surely be left craving for more

Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm 180

Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm 180 offers a delightful culinary venture with its standout dishes: bún đậu (vermicelli with fried tofu and shrimp paste) and the Bánh hỏi giòn da (steamed rolled rice pancakes with pork). For those unfamiliar with these Vietnamese delights, it's a culinary experience not to be missed when visiting Vietnam. I highly recommend trying both dishes.

Personally, I find the Bánh hỏi giòn da particularly delightful, featuring crispy pork complemented by a well-balanced sweet-sour dipping sauce. Imagine crunchy pork, skillfully dipped in a tangy yet sweet fish sauce, and served alongside soft bánh hỏi – a flavor combination that's truly worth trying!

Dessert on the Street

Looking for a delightful twist to round off your meal? Look no further than the roadside delights of hot nut milk and desserts in Danang! Instead of sitting in restaurants, let's go out to the streets, soak in the local atmosphere, and watch the bustling city life.

Around 7 PM, the street comes alive on Nguyen Van Linh with carts selling various treats like nut milk, flan, pastry, and smoothies. For just 12.000VND, the vendor cart offers various types of milk, such as soy milk, peanut milk, strawberry milk, and more.

Just a friendly heads-up, the plastic chairs are a bit low, so if you've got long legs, opt for comfy pants to make the seating experience even more enjoyable.

Address: There are many vendor carts along Nguyen Van Linh Street. But my favorite place is in front of the VRB building.
