8 Must-Visit Chiang Mai Cafes

8 Must-Visit Chiang Mai Cafes for the Perfect Work-and-Caffeination Experience

I first learned of Chiang Mai in Thailand from Arron Tan of the Mostly Yoga podcast. He described it as a relaxed and enjoyable city, ideal for taking some time off and practicing yoga. I recently had the opportunity to visit and explore the city's café scene with a focus on places to read while I get my caffeine fix. Here are the cafes worth checking out on your next trip to Chiang Mai. One thing to keep in mind about Thailand is that it's more relaxed, so cafes may not open as early as you're used to. Expect them to open around 8 or 9 AM.

My Top Picks for Sipping and Savoring

GRAPH Ground
41 Siri Mangkalajarn Rd Lane 1, Suthep, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

This one is first on the list due to its distinctive collection of uncommon coffee-based beverages. Its ambiance is ideal for productivity and it attracts both couples and individuals. The café offers an extensive array of fancy drinks and a limited range of pastries. It's a great place to work, with a line of small round tables along the wall.

Akha Ama Phrasingh

This place was buzzing when I visited, with tourists and locals flocking to enjoy excellent coffee in a beautiful, renovated space. Famous for its fair-priced, high-quality coffee beans, this café offers seating for those looking to work while enjoying a cup of coffee.

MINTNIMAL
65 Prapokkloa Rd, พระสิงห์ เมือง Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

This tiny, quirky, and beautiful coffee shop in Chiang Mai offers a retro experience. On a chilly and windy morning, I was warmed by a freshly brewed hot coffee. Although seating is limited, the shop is great for takeout. They also sell ice cream, but I was feeling too chilled to try any on this occasion.

Ladybake
17 Moon Muang Rd Lane 7, Tambon Si Phum, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

One of our favorite cafes in Chiang Mai is Ladybake! The coffee and baked goods there are incredibly delicious, and the owners are incredibly friendly. The café has a homey and comfortable atmosphere, with a classic and retro interior design. And, it's surrounded by an airy and green environment.

Nimmana Haeminda Rd Lane 1, Tambon Su Thep, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

It's small but excellently located, with very friendly and professional staff. I enjoy studying and people watching here as the market stalls start to set up and the area becomes bustling all around. I highly recommend the "Royal Espresso" and "Frutty Flora" beans as a pour-over.

Nine One Coffee

A top choice for a work café. Cozy ambiance, ample seating, reasonable drinks, air-conditioned 2nd floor, street parking for motorbikes, and abundant natural light and plants. No kitchen, but you can order food delivery to enjoy here, adding to its tropical coffee shop vibe

KLĀY cafe
21 5 Nimmana Haeminda Rd Lane 5, Tambon Su Thep, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

They were actually closed, but the staff still made me a coffee in the late afternoon, as I had just gotten off my flight. The café is set in a peaceful garden with a modern interior design featuring pastel colors. The staff, who were young and knowledgeable about their coffee, created a relaxed atmosphere.

Saruda Finest Pastry
12 Nimmana Haeminda Rd Lane 3, Tambon Su Thep, อ. เมือง Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

This one isn't just a cafe; it's more of a dessert spot with coffee too. It was so good that I had to include it in the list. Saruda Finest Pastry is a cozy little cafe that sells incredibly artistic pastries. The desserts look too pretty to eat. While it may be on the pricier side, the quality and taste are superb.
